Lincoln County High School is aware some parents/guardians have received a notification that their student’s driver’s license or learner’s permit has been revoked due to excessive absences.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, tracking absences was handled differently than ever before this school year. We are working with the Department of Transportation to ensure students are not being punished due to circumstances of the pandemic and are offering a one time reprieve to all students who received this notification. We expect this issue to be fixed for all students by the end of the day Friday.
The No Pass/No Drive Law (KRS 159.051) was passed during the 2007 legislative session and affects every public and private school in Kentucky (including home school students). The law says that schools will use academic and attendance data from the previous semester of the school year to determine whether 16- and 17-year-old students are compliant with the law. If deemed noncompliant, the student’s current driver’s license or learner’s permit is revoked.
