Students at fundraiser

On Tuesday, June 1st, Lincoln County High School 2021 graduate Victoria Lopez suddenly lost her life at UK hospital in Lexington, KY.

Some of her classmates and friends decided they wanted to help out with funeral expenses by hosting a car wash/bake sale this past Saturday at O’Reilly Auto Parts in Stanford.

The group was able to fundraise over $2,000 in a few hours. The money raised, along with other donations from the community, was enough to cover the funeral expenses according to a statement released on the Spurlin Funeral Home Facebook page.

Here’s the full statement from Spurlin’s Facebook page:

“The family of Victoria Lopez would like to thank the community of Lincoln County and the Lincoln County Class of 2021 for their generosity in helping towards funeral expenses. This post is to inform individuals wanting to donate towards funeral cost, that everything has been paid for by donations. Anyone still wanting to help may be able provide donations towards the family to help deal with the loss of their loved one.”

“It’s very sad to see a young graduate pass away so early in life, but I’m very proud of her classmates and our community for working together to help this family in a time of need. That’s what Lincoln County does,” said Superintendent Michael Rowe.

A one-day service has been scheduled for this Thursday, June 10th, at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. The funeral service will begin at 2:30 PM.
