Lincoln County Schools will offer in-person and Patriot Learning Academy (virtual learning) to students when school resumes on January 11th. PLA students will continue to learn from home as they did the previous semester. In-person students will be required to follow the guidance below.
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and the Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) have released their guidance for reopening schools in January of 2021. Districts are encouraged to follow the Healthy at School Guidelines, the COVID-19 Mode of Instruction Metrics for K-12 Education and the COVID-19 Daily Case Incidence Rate Maps to determine which methods of instruction are appropriate given the local community transmission.
Our plan is to follow the guidance and evaluate the Incidence Rate Map on Thursdays after it is released. The determination for the following week’s mode of instruction will be determined by the level of community spread based off of the map. The modes of instruction are based off of four different color categories:
- Red (Critical): Substantial Community Transmission- Aggressive Hybrid Instruction
- Orange (Accelerated): Heightened Community Transmission- Hybrid Instruction
- Yellow (Community Spread): Increased Community Transmission- In-person daily instruction
- Green (On Track): Minimal Community Transmission- In-person daily instruction
Red Level Instruction- If we are Red on Thursday, the following week Lincoln County Schools will use Aggressive Hybrid Instruction. This method of instruction will be an ABCD schedule for in-person students.
Monday- students in “A” group will attend in person.
Tuesday- students in “B” group will attend in person.
Wednesday- students will learn virtually, schools will be cleaned, etc.
Thursday- students in “C” group will attend in person.
Friday- students in “D” group will attend in person.
Orange Level Instruction- If we are Orange on Thursday, the following week Lincoln Schools will use Hybrid Instruction. This method of instruction will be an AB schedule for students.
Monday- students in group’s “A” and “B” will attend in person.
Tuesday- students in group’s “A” and “B” will attend in person.
Wednesday- students will learn virtually, schools will be cleaned, etc.
Thursday- students in group’s “C” and “D” will attend in person.
Friday- students in group’s “C” and “D” will attend in person.
Yellow Level Instruction- If we are Yellow on Thursday, the following week Lincoln County Schools will use daily in-person instruction for all in person students.
Green Level Instruction- If we are Green on Thursday, the following week Lincoln County Schools will use daily in-person instruction for all in person students.

January 2021 return to school fast facts:
- Patriot Learning Academy (virtual school) will still be offered to all students. Students must remain in PLA until the end of the semester once they opt in.
- The color schemed modes of instruction are based off of guidance provided by KDE and DPH. The district will evaluate the data released on Thursdays to determine the level of instruction used the following week.
- You will be notified by the school which group (ABCD) your student is in. Siblings will be grouped together on the same days.
- Early Childhood/Preschool will continue to use the same schedule they used last semester. Staff will contact families if there are any changes.
- School buses will run their routes daily.
- Meals will not be delivered to PLA students, but they will be able to pick up meals at the schools. We also have a 5 day meal pick up plan available now.LINK
- Schools will be extensively cleaned on virtual days (Wednesday) without students in the building.
- Students participating in targeted instruction may utilize a different in person schedule.
- Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) is not the same as PLA. NTI days will be used for inclement weather, sick days, etc.
- If sickness (or quarantined staff) causes one of the schools in the district to be short staffed, they may be asked to utilize NTI.
- Extra-curricular activities will be allowed when permitted by schools.
- District wide facility request will follow the Mode of Instruction Metrics for K-12 Education. Per the Lincoln County Board of Education, no facility request will be permitted when the county is in the Red (Critical) level of community transmission.
- Middle and high school athletics will continue to follow the guidance issued by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
