Lincoln County Schools is pleased to announce Bruce Smith as the district’s new superintendent. Superintendent Smith was chosen by the Lincoln County Board of Education (4-1 vote) during tonight's board meeting. He will become the 21st superintendent in the history of the district.
Mr. Smith is a graduate of Lincoln County High School. After high school he received his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Eastern Kentucky University. He later received a Master of Arts in Education from EKU before obtaining his Rank 1 and certificates for school superintendent, instructional leadership, pupil personnel and middle school principal.
Before retiring from the district in 2017, Mr. Smith spent 29.5 years working for Lincoln County Schools in various roles. He was a classroom teacher at McKinney Elementary and district administrator in various roles including Supervisor of Migrant Education, Adult Education, Community Education, Extended School Services, Title I, Title II, Title III, Title IV, Textbooks, and the Homeless Program. He also served as Director of Pupil Personnel, Director of Student Information Systems, Director of School Nutrition, and district contact for Family Resource and Youth Service Centers. He most recently spent time serving on the Lincoln County Board of Education as a board member and chairman.
As superintendent of Lincoln County Schools, Mr. Smith will work collaboratively with the school board, teachers, staff, parents, and community members to build on the district's strengths and address its challenges. He is excited to join a district that is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment for all students.
