Where Are They Now
This monthly feature highlights Lincoln County graduates and talks about what they are doing in life now.
In honor of National Doctor’s Day today, this month’s highlighted alumni is Dr. Matthew Marshbanks. Dr. Marshbanks is a 1996 graduate of Lincoln County High School and is currently a doctor at Baptist Health in Louisville, Kentucky.
Matthew received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in 2000 and then went on to University of Louisville for medical school. After medical school he interned in internal medicine at University of South Florida before returning to UofL to complete his residency.
Dr. Marshbanks helped start a hospitalist program at Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green after finishing his residency before eventually joining the practice at Baptist Health in Louisville.
“As a hospitalist, I help take care of people who are admitted to the hospital and manage their care as their primary doctor while they are inpatient,” said Dr. Marshbanks. “This means every day I have a new set of patients with a different set of problems. I have always enjoyed that variety as it keeps things interesting and forces me to think.”
Dr. Marshbanks says he still keeps in touch with several of his schoolmates from Lincoln County and his favorite memory from high school was playing football for the Patriots where he was a member of the 1993 State Runner-Up team. “I can still remember so many fun times at practices, in the locker room and sweating through three-a-day practices at 4H Camp in London, KY before the season. Those experiences stick with you forever.”
When asked what teacher made the biggest impact on his life, Marshbanks said the obvious answer would be his mother, Rhonda Marshbanks, who taught him in 4th grade at Stanford Elementary. He followed up by saying it was too difficult to pick just one and that many teachers made a great impact on him along the way. “Mrs. Nancy Hill and Mrs. Pam Hart were great in junior high. AP US History with Martha Francis was really a tough class buit it definitly prepared me for college-type classes. I also enjoyed most of my high school English classes, especially with Mrs. Martha Roberts and Mrs. Scena Petrey.”
Matthew and his wife Melissa currently live in Oldham County along with their three kids. He enjoys spending time with his family, keeping up with sports and jogging in his free time. He is still a big supporter of Lincoln Athletics too!
We are very proud of Matt and of his achievements in life and are excited to see what the future holds for him and his family!
