At tonight’s Lincoln County Board of Education meeting the formal resignation of Bruce Smith was officially voted on and accepted by the Board. Etta Meek was elected as the new Chair and Christine Killen as the Vice Chair. The Board also voted unanimously to hire KSBA to assist them with filling the vacant board seat (District 3-yellow on map).
Per KRS 160.190 (Link- https://bit.ly/3n07iYT) the vacancy must be filled by a majority vote of the remaining members of the local board within sixty (60) days. The board, within thirty (30) days of the vacancy, must solicit applications by posting a notice announcing the vacancy on the district website and by placing it in the local paper (Interior Journal) for two (2) weeks.
Interested applicants must meet the requirements established by KRS 160.180 (https://bit.ly/3TkntML) and shall hold office until his or her successor is elected in this November’s election. More information regarding the application process will be released when available.
