On February 11th, all five Lincoln County elementary schools gathered at Highland Elementary for the District 53 Governor’s Cup competition. Since its beginning in 1985, Governor's Cup encourages depth and breadth of academic knowledge, cultural literacy, teamwork, leadership, creativity, risk assessment, and critical thinking, as well as provides the fun that comes with being part of a team. Sir Winston Churchill said, “If you have knowledge, let others light their candles with it.” Governor’s Cup is an excellent event that allows our students to ignite that spark. Our students definitely let their lights SHINE this past Saturday! Overall champions were Crab Orchard Elementary and Hustonville Elementary was the runner-up. You can see all the individual student placements in each event by following the link below.

Host school Highland Elementary would also like to give a shout out to the local businesses that donated to help make the day special for the students and adult volunteers that give their time to make this possible. Thank you South Lincoln Family Resource Center, First Southern National Bank, Walmart #0825, Patriot Petals, Coleman’s Drug Store and PBK Bank. We appreciate your generosity!
